A NEW book detailing more than 100 years of life in a Herefordshire village is being launched on Saturday (May 31).
For the past three years Sandra Gladwyn and Pat Whitcombe, members of the Marden History Society, have been recording the memories of villagers and agricultural workers aged eight to 93.
The result is The Oral History of Marden 1900 to 2007, published by Leominster-based Orphans Press, accompanied by a CD of extracts taken from the recordings.
The book is being launched at Marden Community Hall on Saturday, where there will also be an exhibition featuring artefacts collected in the process of making the book, including photographs, documents, maps and even a large family bible.
The exhibition is open from 2.30pm to 5pm. Presentations to all those who helped with the recordings will be made at 3pm.
Every household in Marden will receive a free copy of the book and CD.
