LOO MOVED – Sometime on Friday night or early Saturday morning a portable toilet was removed from by the clock tower in Knighton and placed in the middle of the main road and a wooden front garden fence in Penybont Road, Knighton, was (possibly) pulled over by persons unknown. The two incidents may be related. If anyone knows who is responsible or has any information, call Dyfed Powys Police on 0845 330 2000 or the local station by email knighton@dyfed-powys.pnn.police.uk HANDBAGS STOLEN – Two handbags were stolen at a dance held at Knighton Community Centre on Saturday night. Both were later recovered minus small quantities of cash.
COFFEE MORNING – Knighton Methodist Church will be holding a coffee morning from 10am to 11.30am on Tuesday. There will also be a selection of items for sale.
TABLE SALE – There will be a table sale in the church hall, Knighton, on Saturday from 10am to noon. Proceeds will go to St Edward’s Church Restoration fund.
KNIGHTON GOLF CLUB – There was some superb golf played in the Marie Curie Competition which ended with three players topping the scoring with 40 points. Knighton men’s team won both of its recent matches, the first 6-0 against Ravensmeadow followed by a narrow 2.5-1.5 victory over Kington.
MACMILLAN MILE – The annual Macmillan charity walk took place last week and, as usual, there was a large number of walkers. The event was one of the Macmillan Walk Wonders 2008 events. The walkers were started by Knighton Mayor Peter Reynolds with his whistle, they then set off up the street, down by the Offa’s Dyke Centre, to the river, they followed the river until they came to Kinsley Road and then headed back to town, stopping at The Kinsley for refreshments. The walk raised hundreds of pounds for the charity.
FESTIVAL – The border town of Knighton and the surrounding villages are organising a new summer festival to attract people to the Welsh Marches. The very first Serendipity Festival will take place from July 12 to 20 and is a series of events and activities celebrating the people and area of the borderlands.
