MIDSUMMER FAIR – A medieval midsummer fair will be held by the Village Alive Trust at Great Trerhew Farm, Llanvetherine, near Abergavenny on Saturday, June 21, from 2pm, featuring Herefordshire cider and Golden Valley ice cream. As well as the chance to see colourful maypole dancing by Cross Ash School and traditional crafts, visitors can also enjoy a medieval encampment by Teulu. Sheep shearing will feature and a number of local producers ranging from the Golden Valley’s Shepherd’s ice cream to Monmouthshire Stone Candle Holders and Redcastle Nursery have promised to attend. Younger visitors can take part in magic felting workshops and there will be a chance to try archery. Crafts including bee-keeping will be demonstrated. There will also be stalls selling local Herefordshire cider, baskets and other produce. Homemade teas and a licensed bar will be provided by Llangattock Lingoed Church and there will be hot dogs on sale. Admission to the event is £5 per car. From 7pm, a ceilidh with The Skirrid Band will take place. Tickets are £7 to include a hog roast by Ogleby’s Butchers of Hereford. Contact 01873 821418 for tickets.
