A minute’s silence was held by Aston Ingham Women’s Institute in memory of Mrs Joan Goulding, a staunch and valued member, who sadly died recently. Several members represented the WI at her funeral.
In our business meeting, thanks was expressed for the WI catering for a birthday lunch and for an Age Concern lunch, both events were much enjoyed. Further commitments were announced for the Ascot Ladies’ Day Lunch on June 19, hats were loaned and on display from which members could choose so it should be a stylish day. The local foods festival is on August 12, tickets are available to non-WI members who are welcome. There is also an afternoon literary lunch on August 9. The display cabinet for our WI archives is now completed and thanks were given to Mr and Mrs R Spragg and Mr and Mrs R Potter, also Mrs Shirley Eastwood was welcomed as a VCO.
We were glad to hear in Mrs Janet Potter’s report of the annual council meeting, that the HFWI membership is increasing. The venue for the July garden meeting will be at Miss D Roberson’s home. Raffle prizes were won by Christine Page and the tea hostesses were Mrs B Cutter and Mrs C Jones.
