THE headteacher of a north Herefordshire school says she is delighted with the results of a school inspection.

Ofsted inspectors described Lucton School’s Gill Thorne as providing “strong, clear leadership” and praised governors and teachers at the school, which celebrates its 300th birthday this year.

The report said the school had been expanded and extended since its last inspection.

“The success of these changes is reflected in the school’s education provision, particularly the successful introduction of the sixth form and the completion of an ambitious building programme, as well as the high quality of pastoral care and the fulfilment of the school’s aims and ethos,” said the report.

Mrs Thorne said: “This report is a tremendous recognition of the excellent calibre of staff and governors at Lucton.” She added she was pleased with some of the report’s comments on pupils.

“The behaviour of pupils around the school is consistently good,” said the report.

“In class, they are co-operative, around the school, they communicate easily and are courteous, holding doors open and answering questions politely.” Lucton fulfilled all statutory requirements set out in the report.

Any areas highlighted by inspectors as needing further improvement were those already part of the school’s development action plan.
