A HEREFORDSHIRE woman is embarking on a 100km trek across Cuba later this year in aid of the British Heart Foundation.
Sophie Hamar from Wigmore who works for Teme Valley Youth Project and is also a self employed dance teacher, will set off on her five-day trip in November.
She said: “The British Heart Foundation is a good cause and they were organising an interesting trip which appealed to me.” The trek starts in the mountains and will take Sophie through rugged terrain, mango groves and coffee plantations before culminating at the seafront.
Sophie added: “I’m really looking forward to the challenge of trekking in Cuba. “The hills of the Welsh Marches are a great place to get in some training and I’ve already started cycling, walking and swimming on a regular basis.” Sophie is funding the cost of the trip herself and is also hoping to raise a minimum of £2,800 which will also go to the British Heart Foundation.
Her first fundraising event is a barbecue at the Boot Inn in Orleton on Saturday, June 7, at 1pm.
