WI – The Burghill and Tillington branch of the WI has produced a range of reusable shopping bags, priced at just £1, to raise money for the Mercia Accident Rescue Service (MARS). These bags are available at Tillington Village Stores, and are a fantastic way to reduce the use of plastic carrier bags.
Parish Council – At the last parish council meeting it was decided to submit a request for a larger traffic mirror to be placed opposite the access lane on Tillington Common. The parking issues at Haymeadow Lane have been addressed, and the condition of this area is being looked at. Further problems regarding parking in the lay-by near Lower Burlton causing poor visibility has also been investigated. It was decided to inquire whether the parish council is liable in respect of the horse chestnut trees on Tillington Common, and it was resolved to go ahead with the quote previously received from Richard Mills with regard to ditch clearing.
It was agreed to check on the registration of Bird Pool and register it if necessary, as it has been stated that this is privately owned. Burghill School had raised concern regarding nests being made by adders in the area, but it was reported that this would be very unlikely, and the headteacher had been reassured. Following concerns expressed regarding water safety around both pools, it was resolved to make inquires about the liability of the parish council and to find out what kind of warning signs and safety measures may be required.
The council also decided to send a letter to central planning, regarding the livestock market, requesting access-only signs at each end of Tow Tree Lane, a speed limit of 40mph along the whole of Roman Road, a central red tarmac area to prevent overtaking, and also to include all concerns raised by local residents. Bill Griffiths has been elected on to the copse committee, and Coun Robertson is making inquiries as to whether the parish council will be able to use Herefordshire Council’s solicitor regarding the copse.
