STAFF at a Hereford bank have pledged to raise more than £5,000 for the National Deaf Children's Society (NDCS) by attempting to climb 24 of England's highest peaks.
The Lombard 24 Peaks Challenge will see seven colleagues from Barclays Bank, on Broad Street, scale fells in the Lake District, including Scafell Pike, the highest in England. Each fell they climb this weekend will be at least 2,400 feet high, and they must complete the challenge inside 24 hours.
Barclays has agreed to match the team's sponsorship money. Anyone wishing to sponsor the team can do so in any Barclays Bank branch.
Robert Bennett, team leader and branch manager, said: "We have been training hard on the Brecon Beacons weekly for the last three months to prepare.
"The challenge involves walking 31 miles in just one day with lengthy descents and steep ascents along the way. "It will be tough going, but I'm looking forward to being part of a team that wants to make a big difference for deaf children in the UK."
