GOLDEN Valley pupils have given up their pocket money to buy an Asian rainforest.

Part of the Indonesian jungle will forever be Herefordshire thanks to Fairfield School.

Appalled at the devastation of logging, the school joined an RSPB project to save a forest on Sumatra.

They eventually raised £800 - enough to buy a 28.5 acre site in the Harapan reserve.

The land - roughly the size of 12 football pitches - will secure the safety of numerous birds and trees, threatened by intensive logging.

The money was raised through a concert and non-uniform days, while parliamentary hopeful, Jesse Norman, gave £100.

RSPB officials will present the school with a certificate during a cheque presentation on Friday.
