THEY say cats have nine lives but there appears to be life left in one lucky old dog after an accident on a Herefordshire road.
The life of Goggles, a three-legged 18-year-old Jack Russell cross, was saved after a kind passer-by stopped to pick him up close to the spot where he lost his leg in another accident more than a decade earlier.
Goggles was found by Kate Adams who was making her way up A4110 in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Fortunately for the injured dog, she is the daughter of Phil Adams, the owner of Holmer Veterinary Surgery.
"She was coming back from a party and pulled over to pick him up and rang her dad and they took him to the vets," said Goggles' owner Suzy Bengry.
"We would like to thank them both. If it was not for them, he would have died.
"He has no broken bones but he does have a nasty bump to the head. He was very lucky but cannot walk well at the moment."
Sadly, Goggles lost a limb in another accident in the same area when he was a young dog.
"Everybody knows him as the three legged dog. He lost his leg between 10 and 15 years ago in another accident," said Miss Bengry.
It appears Goggles' escape bid was triggered by his desire to take to the wild.
"He went missing on Saturday afternoon and we went looking for him but could not find him. "You cannot keep Jack Russells in as they like to go out hunting," added Miss Bengry.
