A HEREFORDSHIRE woman will meet Prince William during a service in Hampshire this week.
Jillian Ann Haimes will meet the future king in Gosport this Tuesday during a tribute to submariners.
Mrs Haimes, of Moreton-on-Lugg, is a direct descendant of Albert Bertram Fleming, one of 11 men who died in Britain’s first submarine tragedy.
His vessel, HMS A1, collided with the SS Berwick Castle in the Solent on 18 March, 1904, and was not raised for a month.
Victims of the tragedy will be the first to appear on a plaque, listing the name of every fallen British submariner.
HRH Prince William - the Commodore-in-Chief of Scotland and Submarines - will meet Mrs Haimes, aged 69, during the service.
