THERE was a church, the white dress, flowers, cake and confetti, but the only difference at this Withington wedding was that the bride and groom were just four years old.
Nursery children at Withington Primary school organised a mock wedding as part of learning about the community and Christianity.
Headteacher Andrew Massey said: “It was part of the children’s celebrations with regard to looking at community and the Christian festival and, every other year, the nursery holds a wedding.” “It was a really amazing occasion, quite a few people from the village came along as well as lots of parents, reception and year one pupils and some of the school governors.” The 24 children aged between three and four were involved in the whole planning of the wedding, from writing and sending out invitations, making wedding outfits and choosing the flowers, cake and meal.
Nursery teachers Gill Phillips and Linda Goodson organised the event and chose Lily Fennessy as the bride and Will Haines as the groom.
The wedding was held at the village church, where the vicar conducted a mock service.
Back at the school, a marquee had been set up in the playground to accommodate the wedding party.
