HEREFORDSHIRE is set to play an important role in the build-up to the 2012 Olympics.

A guide to the games has identified Hereford’s Royal National College for the Blind (RNC) as a pre-games training camp for paralympic sport.

The organising committee of the games has also highlighted Bromyard Equestrian Centre and Dinmore Manor Stud as equestrian training venues.

The guide helps competing nations locate the best places to carry out vital preparations ahead of the games.

The guide lists RNC as a training camp for athletes taking part in the Paralympic sports of athletics, boccia, five-a-side and seven-a-side football, goalball, judo, powerlifting, table tennis, volleyball (sitting), wheelchair basketball, wheelchair fencing and wheelchair rugby.

The committee say the college was chosen because of its experience in hosting disability sporting events and as a result of its high standard of multi-sport facilities.
