DORMINGTON AND MORDIFORD GROUP PARISH COUNCIL – At the AGM of the council in May, Mr B Durkin was re-elected as chairman and Mr N Brewin re-elected as vice-chairman by unanimous vote. The current committee representatives remain unchanged. During the open session to the public, concerns were expressed about the standard of mowing in the churchyard and the burial ground; the condition of the pavement at the bottom of the rock on the Woolhope Road; flood debris still in the village; heavy traffic coming from Ross and going over Mordiford Bridge, and the speed of the traffic going past the school. The chairman apologised on behalf of the parish council for both the burial ground and the churchyard. There had been a change of contractor but previous standards will be maintained.
Traffic: The chairman explained that the parish plan included traffic management in Mordiford. All ideas would be presented to parishioners, probably at an open meeting. Mr Brewin had learnt that a review of speed limits on all A and B roads was taking place. Athough the Dormington/Mordiford road is a C road it would be included in the review. Maintenance of Mordiford Bridge is scheduled for August 2008. The bridge will be closed to through traffic on the first four Sundays in August. The parish clerk, Mrs Heather Jones, has retired. Miss Kate Davies is the new parish clerk.
Church: At the second meeting of the fundraising committee it was agreed that a fete, combined with the usual high standard of refreshments, was more appropriate than just a tea party as previously advertised. Highlights of the afternoon would be the musical duo The Spin Dwyers, the ten-and-under open fancy dress competition and a tree recognition competition. All the usual stalls and games for children and adults will be available.
School: The Mordiford School fete will be held on Sunday, June 29.
