THE Rotherwas access road is still on course to open by the end of the month. Herefordshire Council has dismissed claims that the route, and its roundabout access off the A49, are not ready.

Richard Ball, the council’s acting head of highways and transportation, told the Hereford Times yesterday (Wednesday) that he could confirm the road, its approaches, and roundabout were “fully in accordance” with current design standards.

“Extensive assessments have taken place to ensure the new roundabout is capable of coping with the volume of traffic that is expected to use it,” said Mr Ball.

This week temporary traffic lights were among vehicle management systems – including a convoy car – put in place to ready the road for full use. The lights are expected to stay on site until next Friday as further work to link the road into the A49 is finished.

Use of temporary lights will then switch to 10pm-6am specifically on June 30, July 1 and July 2 as work is completed.
