THE ambulance trust which covers Herefordshire is appealing for parents to keep their homes safe after a series of cases involving children falling from open windows.
West Midlands Ambulance Service have experienced an unusually high number of incidents around the region where children have fallen from ground floor or first floor windows and have been injured.
“Obviously this has the potential to cause serious injury,” said Rob Marsh, a group station manager for the trust.
“Fortunately, up until now, none of the injuries sustained have been fatal. Children involved in the incidents so far are between the ages of 18 months and seven years, who are obviously inquisitive with regards to open windows.
“With hopefully some warm weather coming up through the summer months, we fear that the current trend will continue. The last thing anyone wants is a child suffering serious and even fatal injuries.
“We would ask that people review the safety in their homes and where appropriate fit child locks to their windows to ensure children cannot open them and climb through.”
