A HEREFORD woman is swimming the distance of the English Channel for charity.
Jane Denny, schools co-ordinator for Weobley, is swimming 21 miles – the equivalent of England to France – at the city baths to raise money for an African school.
“I was a teacher myself and so many children in this country don’t appreciate how lucky they are with their education,”
Ms Denny said. “So when someone else did it for a cancer charity, I thought it was a brilliant idea.”
Ms Denny has been clocking up the miles in her spare time to help Mombasa Olympic Youth Organisation (MOYO), under which Weobley High School teacher Emma Pollack will spend three months teaching schoolchildren in Kenya for free.
Ms Denny said: “What’s really nice is that she’s a popular teacher and the children have really been helping to raise money. They did a sponsored silence, sponsored walk and bike ride, and a parent organised a quiz night too.”
