GANGSTERS and their molls are hitting Weobley in a school production of Bugsy Malone.

The musical is Weobley High School’s summer production and involves 90 students.

Former pupil Alex Thomas, now a qualified teacher and dance instructor, has trained 30 dancers for the show as well as some primary school pupils.

Seven members of staff are also joining in and boosting the choir.

Julie Waring, the show’s producer and curriculum support manager, said: “Parts for the play were so hotly contested that some of the main characters are being played by two students on different nights.

“Part of the humour is generated by the casting of Tallulah from Year 10, whereas her romantic partner, Bugsy is three years younger and more than a few inches shorter than her.”

The school hall has recently undergone an extensive refurbishment, with a new lighting and sound system and a team of students have researched images from 1920s America to project during the show.

Most of the costumes have been hired from Bromyard Costume Store, based at Queen Elizabeth High School.

Performances take place from today (Tuesday) until next Friday. To book tickets call 01544 318159.
