STRAWBERRY CREAM TEAS – To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the NHS, Knighton hospital staff are holding an open event tomorrow (Friday) from 2pm to 4pm. Members of the public are welcome and will have an opportunity to look around the hospital.

CAR BOOT SALE – The Friends of Knighton Primary School are holding a boot sale on Saturday in the school playground from 2pm. Gates open for boots at 1pm. Pre-booked boots are £5, or £6 on the day. To book, call 01547 529800.

To book a place, call 01547 529111 or book online at first4yarns.com BOWLING CLUB – Knighton Lady Bowlers travelled to Talgarth for one of their recent matches, which they won 23-11. On the second rink, the team had a close game, winning 15-14.

MACMILLAN WALK/SUMMER SALE – The annual Macmillan walk held earlier this year raised £1,631.62 and the summer sale raised £377. Raffle winners were Fred Evans, Betty Bowen, Doreen Gammon, Hazel Edwards, Liz George and Linda from Kinsley House. Liz George, vice-chairman of the support group, gave thanks to everyone who supported them at the two events.

LLANBISTER MOTHERS’ UNION – The guest speaker at the recent meeting held at the community hall was Margaret Walker, author of Cucumber Sandwiches and Fishnet Tights. Pat Allen gave a vote of thanks.

ART FOR AMNESTY – A big crowd of local artists joined guests at the opening of the 2008 exhibition. This is the 19th year, and the painter displaying his work was Colin Simmonds. The Cale Recorder Consort provided musical entertainment.
