VILLAGE LOTTERY – With her number 35 Pauline Jordan won this week’s £25 prize.

MEETING – Bishopstone and District Group Parish Council will meet today (Thursday) at 7.30pm in the Portway Inn Hotel, Staunton-on-Wye. On the agenda will be the problems caused by the increased use of the Madley to Bridge Sollers road by heavy and long vehicles, when to start a litter picking campaign and to consider the contents of letters received from residents.

SOAP BOX RACING – Last Sunday, in Little Dewchurch, the Bishopstone team comprising John Macklin (captain), Jim Fisk, Phil Handscombe, Ian Astley (driver of BRM) and Barry Megson (driver of Bishy Boys) ended their racing season in a victorious mood. The main downhill race saw a role reversal with Barry Megson beating Ian Astley into second place. Barry’s winning time of 27.87 seconds is also a track record and Ian’s time of 27.96 seconds also broke the previous track record. Third was a soap box from Shropshire called Grasshopper with a time of 29.72 seconds. Phil Handscombe (driving BRM) came second in the preliminary push start event with a time of 28.16 seconds.

BT TELEPHONE BOXES – BT has offered the parish council the choice of either ‘adopt a kiosk’ or ‘sponsor a kiosk’. To adopt will mean that the box remains where it is with the mechanism removed. To sponsor means to pay £500 a year to keep it in working order and to have the box serviced regularly by BT. The deadline date of September 26 has been given to decide. The letter containing the offer arrived too late to be included in the agenda for the council’s next meeting. Would all persons interested in the BT boxes contact Barry Megson on 590691 with their preference asap.
