TWO international superstars were at the grand opening of a landmark resource centre – well, almost.
A Kylie Minogue lookalike and a James Bond impersonator joined staff and pupils who saw 18 months of hard work finally pay off at Womaston MacIntyre School in Walton, near Kington.
Students will enjoy a new £85,000 computer suite, a cafe and sports facilities following a massive £300,000 fundraising effort which involved a 10K run by staff and pupils, and sponsorship from groups including Knighton and District Rotary Club.
Head Martin Bertulis said the school, which welcomes children with learning difficulties and autism, had been waiting for the hall for a long time.
“To actually have it open and available is amazing,” he said.
He was joined by MacIntyre managing director Bill Mumford in thanking all those who helped raise funds and build the site, and the children sang songs, acted out skits and made cakes for around 100 guests.
A plaque listing those who donated was unveiled by John Berriman, who chairs the trustees.
