HOW much does it cost to spend a penny?
More than £110 if a charge made to Ledbury Town Council is anything to go by.
The council has been told it will need to pay £110.94 a night to open Ledbury’s two public toilets during the October fair.
The demand has led to protests from the town’s mayor, who wants the toilets in Bye Street and Church Lane to be open in the evening for visitors.
“They are normally locked between 6pm and 7pm but as it is the October fair, we have asked for them to be closed a bit later,” said Councillor Keith Francis.
“Herefordshire Council are meant to be supporting tourism but have put this charge on us.”
But Herefordshire Council is determined to flush out a solution. Spokesman John Burnett said: “We are committed to working with the town council to resolve this.”
