COFFEE MORNING – On Friday, September 26, Monkland will hold the Macmillan coffee morning in the village hall between 10am and noon. Admission is just £1 to include coffee/tea/biscuits. Among others, various stalls include homemade cake and pickles, bric-a-brac, books and a draw. A warm welcome awaits all.
CYCLE RIDE – Blessed once again with fine weather, the Herefordshire Historic Churches sponsored cycle ride was fun to be part of. Visiting 12 churches and covering 31miles, all monies raised helped towards our church, so many thanks to all sponsors.
HARVEST FESTIVAL – On October 5, there is the Harvest Festival starting at All Saints Church, Monkland, at 11.30am, followed by lunch in the village hall. Tickets are available from Wendy Jancey (01568 720265) and Janet Butler (01568 720180) at excellent value of just £5 per head.
AUTUMN SHOW – Monkland held its annual autumn show on August 30, and the standard was very high. Judges commented that it was the best small show they had judged this year. News had spread of the show and entrants came from as far afield as Yorkshire. Cup winners presented were: cut flowers, Elsie Underhill; pot plants, Anne Woods; floral art, Janet Bottom; vegetables, joint= Dave Wall and Mr Beasley; craft, Mrs J Edwards; art, Lorna Hart; photography, Dee Griffiths, and the domestic category was won by up-and-coming ten-year-old, Holly Watkins. The children’s section was won by (under 11), Logan Griffiths; and (under five), Elvi Williams. Best in show was announced for Mrs J Barnes (from Yorkshire), and highest number of points cup jointly won by Mrs Underhill and Mrs Bottom.
