The Golden Valley Environment Group hosted a Green Supper with a Self-Sufficiency "Flavour" on 18th September in Vowchurch Village Hall. What a great venue! Everyone brought a dish of food to share, made from home-grown or locally produced ingredients. The food did not disappoint! The result was a delicious buffet supper, produced with a minimum of food miles!
After the meal, Dave Williams from Golden Valley Apiaries spoke on Beekeeping. Bees are critical in our production of food. He discussed on-going "challenges" with Varroa disease and the resulting lack of honey production which has been going on for quite some time. Workshops are available regularly and it is something to consider! Keeping Bees can be interesting and fun!
Manu and Edi also gave an update on their Community Supported Agriculture Project at Rainbow View. After one season, they have proved that they can grow fresh, organic fruit and vegetables with reduced food miles much, much cheaper than what it would cost to shop at the big commercial grocery stores. What a positive note!
