AN open day at a Herefordshire museum has been hailed a success.
Joan Thwaites, for Leominster Museum, said the Heritage Open Day was summed up by a comment left in the museum’s visitor’s book: ‘Interesting and friendly - like the town’.
Visitors, thanks to a grant from Leominster Town Council, were able to tour the museum with MP4 players which tell the stories behind the objects on display.
These included items not normally on show such as a selection of mop caps from the museum’s linen collection, and new features like the on-screen display of Leominster artist John Scarlett Davies’ sketchbook.
Children and adults were given quizzes to complete as part of a family friendly day - with chocolate bars and cash the prizes.
The museum is to host a Finds Day on October 7, between 11am and 2.30pm, featuring Peter Reavill, the finds liaison officer for Herefordshire.
An open day display is planned to coincide with Leominster Apple Fair on October 18 and there are plans to work in conjunction with Dennis Downey’s Victorian Buildings walks, which will be a feature of the town’s Victorian Fair.
