VILLAGE WALK – On Saturday, the Whacky Walkers will meet at the Boot Inn in Orleton at 10.15am when lunch may be booked and the walk will start at 10.30am. Take the A49 Hereford to Leominster Road and use the Leominster by-pass. At the end of the by-pass turn left towards Leominster and after crossing the railway lines at the first roundabout take the B4361. After approximately six miles at the sign for Orleton Village turn right. Proceed until the T-junction and turn left. The Boot Inn is 200 yards on the left. Walking boots or wellingtons recommended. Some stiles and gates but mainly flat and about 4.75 miles long.
HARVEST FESTIVAL – There will be a Harvest Festival service at St Lawrence Church, Bishopstone, starting at 10am on Sunday.
RUBBISH – There will be another opportunity to clear out the garage or shed of clutter by using the parish freighter and box van stationed in Byford on Saturday, October 11, between 11am and 1pm.
A CHOIR EVENING – Tickets are on sale to listen to Hereford Rail Male Voice Choir who will perform at Hopelands Hall, Weobley, on Friday, October 3, starting at 7.30pm. Contact P Astley on 590283 or J Macklin on 590620 and support St Andrew’s Church funds.
TELEPHONE BOXES – At the parish council meeting held on Thursday, September 18, councillors voted to ‘adopt’ the BT telephone kiosk in Bishopstone. This means that the box will stay but that it will not be functional because BT will remove the working parts. Councillors voted not to keep the kiosk at Byford on the A438.
FLOODING – To safeguard against future flooding the parish council has arranged for sandbags to be stored at Bridge Sollers, Mansell Gamage and Bishopstone. Full details will appear as a permanent item in the newsletter.
LITTER PICKING – Parish councillors agreed a need to identify where the worst areas are so that they could organise volunteers to clear the litter.
HIGHWAYS – It was agreed by councillors that a meeting will take place between Bishopstone Group Parish Council and Madley Parish Council to involve
target="_blank">Herefordshire Council in talks to solve the problems caused by the increased use of the lane between Bridge Sollers and Madley.
NOTICEBOARDS – Councillors agreed that new village name signs should be purchased and fitted to the head of noticeboards to replace the lettering which has peeled off.
