MENDELSSOHN’S ELIJAH – Kington Choral Society invites you to join them for an evening of beautiful choral music at St Mary’s Church, Kington, on Saturday, October 18, at 7.30pm. The oratorio, Elijah, was written by Felix Mendelsshohn in 1846 for the Birmingham Festival, in homage to Mendelssohn’s Baroque predecessors Bach and Handel, whose music he loved and clearly reflects his own style as an early Romantic composer. It depicts various events in the life of the biblical prophet Elijah, taken from the books 1 Kings and 2 Kings in the Old Testament. The performance will feature soloists Elisabeth Wingfield (soprano), Frida Osterberg (alto), Michael Clee (tenor), and Richard Strivens (bass/baritone). Organist: Peter Dyke of Hereford Cathedral; Choir: Kington Choral; Conductor: Maureen Twiddy. Tickets £8 including refreshments/programme (£4 child/student) reservations on 01544 230319.
