ONLY a select few get to be fat cats in their time – but the prospect of owning one has just become a reality.
Hereford moggy Mason has been left on the shelf at Hay Cat Rescue after his elderly owner died.
The 20lb tabby was thought to have spent two weeks hiding behind a bath before rescuers took him and five others to Brookfield Veterinary Practice two weeks ago.
Volunteer at Hay Cat Rescue, Vivian Coombe, said: “He’s opposite to the type of cat that we get in as they usually need fattening up. We don’t know why he’s so fat – he doesn’t eat a huge amount but he’s not very active.”
His brother Fortnum and the other cats are with new owners but the eight-year-old is yet to be re-housed.
“We are looking for a nice quiet home for him and he would suit an older person,” Vivien said.
She also said Hay Cat Rescue was getting more abandoned pets than ever – with many owners claiming they cost too much to keep at the moment.
