IT should have been a homecoming to cherish but the return of a missing pet has turned to sadness.
Silky, the guinea pig, disappeared in mid-July from her Bodenham home but returned after being found by two schoolboys from St.Michaels CE Primary School.
A family living close by were delighted to be reunited with her after they were alerted to the find by school staff.
"One of our neighbours said I had a guinea pig but it disappeared months ago but she came to have a look anyway,” said teaching assistant Louise Layton.
“She had a tear in her eye when she saw it and could not believe it was Silky.
Sadly, a few days after being reunited with the family Silky died.
But perhaps they can be consoled by the arrival of a new guinea pig bought to replace Silky while she was missing.
