Hereford City Rotary Club has had a record year of fundraising, contributing nearly £18,000 to charities in Herefordshire and around the world.
President Ron Giles said: “It’s a real credit to the people of Hereford, my fellow Rotarians and our past president Roy Davies that we have been able to raise such a fantastic amount of money.
“As with all Rotary fundraising every single penny of the money raised goes to the good causes.”
Charities to benefit include more than £1,000 to Children at No1 Ledbury Road - a respite home for up to 50 severely disabled five to 18-year-olds; £2,000 to BODS, in St Weonards which runs programmes for schools, pupil referral units and care homes for children at risk of exclusion.
World-wide the Hereford club donated almost £3,000 to Shelter Box which provides emergency accommodation for victims of natural disasters, and £1,500 to the Rotary Wheelchair Foundation, providing three wheelchairs for people in need. Rotary in Britain and Ireland provided more than 11,000 wheelchairs across the globe.
