A COURSE at Hereford College of Arts proved a catalyst for inspiration, development and last but not least, friendship and support, with the class of 2006/8 now staging their new show this Easter in Knighton Libary.
The exhibition features an exciting mix of media including work by Sally King, Jenny Underhill, Diana Philipson and Kate Morgan-Clare.
Drawing on the vibrant colours of eastern tiles and the rich patterns of South American textiles, Sally King makes glass and ceramic tiles for tables, trivets and coasters, while Kate Morgan-Clare, who lives on the Shropshire/Herefordshire border, paints landscapes that capture the energy of the stunning countryside.
Fellow exhibitor Jenny Underhill says that after 35 years working to find art in the science of being a physiotherapist, she is discovering science in art. She hopes her images of the human form will embody elements of the human condition enabling a personal insight in the observer.
Diana Philipson, who has traditionally worked in watercolour, has begun to explore the possibilities of using glass as an artistic medium. “I am excited by its potential to interpret both organic and more structured forms,” she says.
Completing the quintet, Jenny Hare's colourful paintings are inspired and fired by her love of our wild hills, dingles and spectacular sunsets.
Entry to the exhibition at Knighton Library, West Street, Knighton, is free and it runs until Friday, April 17. Tuesday to Saturday, 9.30am to 1pm; Tuesday afternoon, 2pm to 7pm, Thursday and Friday afternoons, 2pm to 5.30pm.
