A FOCAL point that’s sure to be a talking point. This 40ft-square masterpiece is due above a fireplace any day, after a Hereford firm spent a week framing it.
Framing Workshop, on Whitecross Road, had never tackled anything this big on site but rose to the challenge when a customer popped in with the Egyptian papyrus two weeks ago.
Now the gentleman concerned will need a van to ferry it home to the Forest of Dean after proprietor George Fairbrother and his team completed the job.
George said: “Normally pieces like this are done in town hall foyers and schools, and we basically build a skeleton frame and take it to the job, and fit it where it’s going to be.”
But the 10ft x 4ft portrait of Tutankhamun took twice as long as the average picture to frame because its owner, who brought it back from a holiday, wanted it done in store, meaning both glass and frame had to be cut especially.
Now all that’s left is the unenviable task of hanging it.
George said: “We have given him all the advice and professional help he will need to put it on the wall where it’s going.”
