PALM SUNDAY AT ST MARY’S CHURCH – Before the service on Palm Sunday, the congregation was given crosses made from palm leaves. During the singing of a hymn the vicar the Rev Mark Beaton led everyone around the church, holding aloft his or her palm cross. At prayer time, the congregation was asked to turn the palm crosses upside down to resemble a sword. They were then invited to say aloud the name of a country where there is trouble or war and Mr Beaton prayed for the “blood of the cross” to bring peace to that place. The person who requested the prayer then turned their “swords” around, back to the shape of the cross.
SERVICES – On Good Friday (tomorrow) there will be a meditation and music time at 1pm. Easter Day celebrations will be at 9.15am with Holy Communion. Please join the congregation of St Mary’s as together we mark this very special time.
