Back in August 2008, six orphaned hedgehogs, just a few days old, were found near Presteigne. Knighton Primary School teacher Sonia Williams and her family cared for them and by October, five had put on enough weight to be released, leaving just one who was still too small.
The hedgehogs, including the smallest (Murphy), were regular visitors to school. In the last week of school before the Easter break, Class R1W held a spring assembly and, at the end of it, announced it was time for Murphy to be released.
He will be released near where he was found, at Mrs Williams’ farm, but will be fed for as long as he comes back.
Mrs Williams said: “ I will be really sorry to see him go but he is a wild animal and must learn to look after himself”.
