WI – The ladies of Almeley WI are holding an open meeting in the village hall today (Thursday). Starting at 7.30pm, admission is £3, which includes refreshments. There will also be a bring-and-buy sale. With the abundance of beautiful flowers and foliage in and around the village, the topic for the talk, to be given by Dr David Boddington, on the subject of the flowers and animals of the Arctic, should be of great interest. DIARY DATE – On Sunday, July 21, Almeley Midsummer Festival will take place at Newport House, Almeley. This is planned to be a garden party to be enjoyed by all the family. PARTY – A tea party to thank Mrs Bray, who recently retired as postmistress, will be held in the village hall on Sunday at 4pm. Guests are invited to bring a plate of food to share. Anyone wishing to contribute to a farewell gift for Mrs Bray can leave their contribution at the Bells Inn.
FLICKS IN STICKS - Thursday, May 14, at 7.30pm, Slumdog Millionaire (15), usual arrangements. Refreshments available, or bring your own; admission £3.50 (or £2.50 concessions). Come and see this year's most original, controversial and challenging film.
