MOTORISTS had a frustrating time driving through Hereford city centre after a gas leak.
Drivers had their patience tested by congestion on the A49 causing big delays.
The problems, caused by roadworks close to the Steels car dealership, saw Whitecross Road, Ross Road and Belmont Road the worst hit areas.
Sue Townsend and her family, from Allensmore, were hit by the delays travelling in and out of the city.
“A journey to The Courtyard and back, which should have taken 20 minutes, took my daughter three hours instead,” said Mrs Townsend.
Jane Taylor, press officer for the National Grid, said the work was to determine the position of four or five escape points on the gas mains and, if no more were found, the lane closure could end by tomorrow (Friday).
