TWO Hereford postmen will once again be pounding the streets of London to raise money for the NSPCC.
Mike Chandler and Dave Fletcher are both marathon veterans having clocked up 12 marathons between them and, together, they have helped raise a staggering £140,000 for the charity.
“I have run the last eight London Marathons but I am still looking forward to running my ninth,” said Mr Chandler, who recently celebrated 25 years with the Post Office.
“Each time I have chosen the NSPCC to be my charity and the money that we have raised has been fantastic.
“But one of the other things that I have found so lovely is the caring comments that the people of Herefordshire give us each year.”
Mr Fletcher ran in the event between 2002 and 2005, but a health scare prevented him from continuing. He is now back to full fitness and will celebrate his 50th birthday by running again this year.
n Meanwhile, Mike Chandler has also been named as one of the best postmen in the Midlands.
Mr Chandler and Glyn Jones, from Bodenham, were awarded £500 after they raised more than £21,000 for Breast Cancer Haven by cycling 330 miles from their home to Leeds and back.
The Royal Mail’s First Class People Awards scheme recognises postmen who fund-raise and contribute to the community.
