A RUGBY mad headteacher is trying a new career after 20 years at the same school.
Geoff Williams has led the way at Weobley Primary School after moving from South Wales in 1989.
But he blew the whistle on his tenure for a teaching training job in Leominster.
Dozens of former teachers, pupils and parents said goodbye to Mr Williams last week during a series of farewell events. Mr Williams, aged 60, of Leysters, admitted to being emotional, but is looking forward to getting a break and starting again.
“Weobley has been a fantastic place and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it,” he said. “I won’t miss the target setting and all that stuff, but I’m really going to miss the children, staff and everyone I’ve dealt with.”
Weobley received two outstanding Ofsted reports during his time and became a carbon neutral school.
Away from the school, he’s also a treasurer for the Welsh School Rugby Union and oversees several age groups.
His new job at the Robert Owen Society starts in September and involves training advice and school visits. But he’s taking a summer break to recharge his batteries, and plans to see the British Lions in South Africa.
“I’ll miss the daily contact with the children but it will be nice to start new friendships and reacquaint with others,” he said.
