MEMBERS of Herefordshire’s newest Rotary club swapped their gladrags for rubbish bags.

The Rotary Club of Hereford Marches was inaugurated in style at the Bishop’s Palace on a Friday night and the next morning, with wellies and rubber gloves, the new team got to work to clear litter from the banks of the River Wye.

President John Jarvis said: “We’re all committed to putting something back into the community, locally and internationally, and we wanted to make it clear we mean what we say.

“This new club is targeted at businesspeople who appreciate Rotary’s ideals and work as the world’s largest humanitarian not-for-profit organisation. But we’d struggle with lunch and evening meetings.

“Hereford Marches Club meets for breakfast on Fridays at Olivers, at the Travelodge near Sainsbury’s. We start at 7.15am and finish at 8.30am prompt so there’s time to get to work.”

The new club is planning a sponsored litter pick along the Wye this spring. Anyone who would like to join can contact jo.fishley@hotmail.com.
