THE family of a SAS soldier killed in Iraq saw their questions go unanswered at his inquest today.

Nicholas Brown, a born and bred Herefordian, died after being shot in the back while searching a house in March last year.

But Mr Brown’s father John and his widow Charlotte did not receive answers when they asked what happened before the 34-year-old went into the house to search for a known terrorist.

John Brown, himself a former member of the SAS, asked a soldier on the operation why his son’s team entered the building after a search dog, which went into the house shortly before the soldiers, had been shot.

But before the unnamed soldier could respond, lawyers for the MOD objected to the coroner.

Herefordshire coroner David Halpern backed the MOD saying: “We don’t want any information to come out of this inquest that could be harmful to future soldiers.”

But Charlotte Brown disagreed saying: “I just believe that what happened prior to Nick going into the building was very relevant.

I understand the security issues but this is important.”

The inquest continues.
