LEOMINSTER Museum held their 2009/10 season preview on April 4, which was attended by some 40 friends, volunteers and invited guests. Over the winter, the courtyard and stable area had been the subject of an impressive refurbishment programme thanks to the efforts of a number of volunteers, led by Christine Evans.
The work enabled the curator, Christopher Bradbury, to remount a display of all the contents with the financial help of the town’s Women In Business organisation.
After a tour of the premises, the Mayor of Leominster, Councillor Peter McCaull, praised the efforts of the volunteer team and declared the museum open for the season.
The chairman, Geoffrey Crofts, echoed the Mayor’s comments and drew attention to the carbon friendly measures that had been taken over the winter, such as the insulation of the main hall loft and the secondary glazing to the large front windows.
These measures had been made possible thanks to a grant from the Herefordshire Museum Development Fund and Herefordshire Council community projects. The chairman concluded by paying tribute to the work of Michael Bloy, who was retiring as honorary secretary at the conclusion of the AGM on April 30, and presented Michael with a gift of theatre vouchers as a mark of appreciation.
