THOUSANDS of homes and shops in Hereford city centre were without electricity for nearly two hours yesterday.
The cut, which started at 1.20pm, affected 2,500 customers and power was eventually restored shortly after 3.10pm.
Alec Mackie, fire press officer, said a woman in her early 20’s was rescued from a lift in New Look at 1.20pm after it had broken down and was treated for shock by paramedics.
Two people were also rescued from the basement of Marks and Spencer at 1.40pm, but it is not known whether this was the result of power failure.
The cause of the cuts is being investigated.
Central Networks spokeswoman Rebecca Bieniaszewska said: "We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused."
