FIVE good causes across Herefordshire have benefited from Freemason donations.

The funds, allocated by the Lodge Charity Trust, were presented by David Sayers, Worshipful Master of the Royal Edward Lodge of Freemasons.

One recipient was 16-year-old Girl Guide Stephanie Grant, of Yarpole, who has raised £2,000 to help fund a trip to New Zealand.

Another was Martin Healey, Leominster Judo Club coach, who is raising funds to help members take part in an international judo competition in Slovakia this month.

He was accompanied at the presentation by club member Tabatha Jones.

On behalf of the Leominster Priory Restoration Appeal, Geoff Bricknell received a donation towards the repair of the 18th century Nicholson organ, which has suffered water damage.

Meanwhile, Herefordshire charity Riding for the Disabled (RDA) was given a donation which Penny Corbett, who built the RDA’s indoor school, said would benefit the 26 children attending the Sue Adams Riding Stables near Shobdon.

And volunteers Jess McKenzie and Kath Townsend received money on behalf of the About Face theatre company, based at The Forbury in Leominster. The theatre group, which was represented by member Donovan Lewis, is made up of adults with learning difficulties who tour Herefordshire schools.
