Sarah Somers’ outstanding career as headteacher of Bredenbury Primary School reached its conclusion on Friday, April 3. She took up her position as general primary inspector on April 20, based in Hereford.
The school hall was packed with emotional parents, staff, LA staff and members of the local community for what would be Sarah's final assembly, which concluded with a moving and inspirational speech from the chairman of governors, Tim Waight. Mrs Clarke, in her role as chairman of the PTA, gave her thanks to Sarah for her outstanding leadership of the school and presented her with two beautiful flowering shrubs. Reception, Years 1 and 2, under the direction of their teacher, Jill McLellan, sang a beautiful good-bye song. All the children sang a song composed by Niki Summers and watched a short clip from a video of school life produced by Rachel Massey. The pupils read various poems and articles they had written in her honour and finally presented her with a beautiful silver charm bracelet. Mrs Somers presented Elizabeth Williams, acting head teacher from April 20, with a box of very special stickers to enable her to carry on the responsible task of rewarding children for their outstanding work and effort. Mrs Somers also presented two cups to the school to be awarded annually for ‘star qualities’ and attendance.
