PUPILS living near Hay-on-Wye are about to get their 15 minutes of fame as the stars of a BBC 2 documentary.
Ellie Sturgeon, Oliver Lewis, Laura Tofarides and Emma Brown, all pupils at Gwernyfed High School, are the subject of a forthcoming programme about the famous book town’s victorious bid to be twinned with Timbuktu in 2007.
Viewers will see the Three Cocks students visit the West African city while writing diaries, short stories and penning songs in order to fuel and inspire their own creative writing.
The show, which airs tomorrow at 7.30pm, films the teenagers’ journey from start to finish and goes out ahead of a talk at Hay Festival on May 28 from Hay doctor Julie Grigg and colleagues who have been forging health and educational links with Timbuktu since the twinning.
