DISABLED people in the Leominster area are being offered a wonderful new facility to help them get about.

They are electric mobility scooters which can be taken apart and easily packed in the boot of a car, and could prove to be invaluable for that weekend or holiday away from home.

The scooters have been bought for Leominster Shopmobility by Help the Aged.

The charity answered an appeal by Leominster Shopmobility coordinator Richard Langridge and came up with £1,300 to buy two scooters from TPG in Hereford.

The scooters can be borrowed for weekend or holiday use.

Mr Langridge said a charger was provided so the user could ride all day, plug in overnight and be ready to go next morning.

There is no charge for the service but borrowers are asked to put down a £25 deposit.

Leominster Shopmobility loans out 1,000 mobility aids a year and deals with more than 1,000 general queries. It also provides a useful service for mothers with young children.

The premises, joining on to the central car park, provides a baby’s nappy changing station, supplying a free nappy, and has a private area for breastfeeding.
