IF you want to know how much grass sheep and beef cattle need to eat when grazing to achieve their target performance, the answer could be at the Grassland UK event at the Bath and West Showground today (Thursday).
Experts on the EBLEX Better Returns Programmee (BRP) stand will explain how to measure grass growth and how to work out how much animals need to consume at particular stages of their production cycle.
Sheep specialist Dr Liz Genever says to make sure livestock get enough energy and protein off grazed grass, farmers first need to measure the amount of grass growing in the field.
Then they must allocate an appropriately sized area to ensure all the animals’ needs are being met.
Representatives on the stand will also give away grass ID cards to help producers recognise species of grass and gauge the clover content of their swards.
