SEEN here is a picture from the Golden Valley Pony Club’s recent beach ride (on the beach at Pembrey Country Park), which is becoming an annual event for the branch in the spring.

The Golden Valley area covers parts of west Herefordshire and east Wales, and the club welcomes new members.

Current members range from aged five years to 18, with full membership open to boys and girls up to 21 years of age.

Branch activities take place throughout the year, ranging from working rallies, the beach ride, fun ride and barbecue and, of course, the annual camp, where members stay, with their ponies, for a number of days in the summer to both improve their riding and horse care skills.

There is the opportunity to train for and take the Pony Club tests, which are nationally recognised and helpful for those who may wish to pursue a career in equestrianism.

For the competitively minded, there are area PC competitions in many disciplines of horsemanship, which lead to qualifications to compete in the PC national championships.

Last year, Golden Valley was delighted to have three riders qualify to compete in the nationals in eventing, dressage and showjumping.

On Sunday, June 21, the Golden Valley Open Pony Club Show is taking place at Clyro Court, Hay-on-Wye, with jumping, showing and working hunter classes, plus a fun dog show.

If you’d like further information about the show or for further information about the Pony Club and the Golden Valley branch, visit pcuk.org/golden valley or call the district commissioner Isobel Mills on 07976 779140.
