CHURCH – A coffee morning and cake stall will be held in St Mary Magdalene Church on Saturday. Donations of cakes of all varieties will be very welcome. On Saturday, June 13, there will be a summer bazaar with books, nearly new clothes, bric-a-brac, cakes and produce. Gift Day will be on Saturday, July 18. Winners in the March quarterly draw were Mrs F Thorne, Mr J Pollock, Mrs J Rees, Mr J Phelps, Oliver Lloyd, Amelia Lloyd, Mrs M Fenton, Mrs A Wood, Mr and Mrs M Rees and Mr J Whittal.
HISTORY GROUP – The meeting in May will be on Monday, May 11, at 7.30pm in the New Strand.
ROYAL BRITISH LEGION – The monthly meeting is tonight (Thursday) at 8pm in the New Strand. The speaker will be Loftie Wiseman, ex-SAS soldier.
On Saturday, May 16, the branch will be holding its annual sale/coffee morning in the village hall.This starts at 10.30am and is an occasion not to be missed if you want to buy excellent plants and cakes, together with books, plus a bottle stall and a grand draw.
COFFEE BREAK – Go along to Ridgeway, Great Oak, on Friday, May 15, for the annual coffee morning hosted by the Terry family in aid of the Meningitis Trust. There will be a bringand- buy, plus cakes. The event starts at 10am.
METHODIST CHURCH – Tea and chat is on Thursday, May 28, from 2.30pm until 4pm. All are welcome.
SOCIAL WHIST DRIVE – At the monthly whist drive held at the New Strand on on Monday, April 27, MC Phillip Jenkins awarded prizes to Mandy Goodwin, Audrey Lloyd, Kath Jenkins, Margaret Goode, Sue Holdaway and Sandra Payne. As the last Monday in May is a bank holiday, players are reminded that the next whist drive will be on Monday, June 1, with play beginning at 7.45pm.
