HISTORY GROUP – The next meeting of Byton, Combe, Kinsham and Stapleton History Group will take place at the Arkwright Hall in Kinsham on Wednesday, May 13, at 7.30pm.

This month, David Lovelace will give a talk entitled The Woodlands of North Herefordshire: History, Ecology and Restoration. Admission is £2, which will include refreshments, and everyone will be made welcome.

DARTS – The Presteigne Open Pairs Tournament, sponsored by Coinspinner, will take place on Saturday, May 23, at Presteigne Football Club. It will be a round robin format. The first prize is £200, with prizes for the furthest ladies and highest out for male and female.

KEEP FIT – Llangunllo Keep Fit Club meets every Monday and Friday mornings. On Monday, from 9.30am to 10.30am, Janie Cremer leads a session of aerobics, salsa, pilates and dietary advice. The cost is £2 for members and £2.50 for non-members.

Then on Fridays, you can join Jenny Williams for aerobic and body toning session. The cost for this session is £1 for members and £1.50 for nonmembers.

TOUR DE PRESTEIGNE – This year’s Tour de Presteigne and Green Wheels will take place at the weekend. There will be events and shows on Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 5pm, with the premier electric bike race taking place on Sunday at 3pm with commentary from Ian Marchant. CONCERT – Concordia will be playing a concert at Lingen Methodist Church on Saturday from 7pm.

Admission is free but there will be a retiring collection in aid of the chapel refurbishment fund and St Michael’s Hospice. Light refreshments will be a available during the interval.

BOWLING CLUB – There is an open day at the bowling club in Greenfield Road on Sunday from 2pm. Pop along and find out more about bowling or just give it a go. GARDENS AND NURSERY – Whimble Gardens and Nursery are open from now until October every Thursday to Sunday (and bank holiday Mondays) from 10.30am to 5.30pm. The gardens and nursery are on the B4372 Presteigne to New Radnor road. Refreshments are available daily.

FLORAL ARTS SOCIETY – The next meeting of Presteigne and Borders Floral Arts Society is on Wednesday, May 13, at the Memorial Hall from 7.30pm. This month there will be a demonstration entitled Come Walk With Me by Bridget Manton. Visitors are welcome for a £4 fee. For further details, call 267482.

WEDNESDAY WINDOWS – The Friends of St Michaels in Discoed present an evening with John Betjeman in the company of Edward Storey and his guest Sir Gilbert S Munro, D D. An Entertainment of Wit, Whimsy and Wisdom at St Andrew’s Church Hall on Wednesday, May 20, at 7.30pm. Tickets are £5, which will include an interval drink.

CUP FINAL – This Sunday at Llanandras Park is the Otway Cup final between Presteigne and Newbridge. KO is 2.30pm and admission by programme is £3 for adults, £2 for OAPs and £1 for children. The cup will be presented by match sponsor Mick Mills and the match ball is sponsored by Edward Traylor and Nobby Lockwood.

MUSIC – John Jones and the Reluctant Ramblers are playing at Titley Village Hall on Friday, May 22, at 8pm. Admission is £10.
